Professor Justin Paul from Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Puerto Rico and Distinguished Scholar at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, visited TSE and held a seminar on how to publish review articles in business and management studies on the 11th of December. Professor Paul approaches the topic from the perspective of seven different review paper types. He has gained broad experience on the topic as an author and through acting as a Managing Guest Editor in International Business Review, in Journal of Business Research and Journal of Strategic Marketing, and Associate Editor in European Management Journal, the Service Industries Journal, Journal of Strategic Marketing and International Journal of Emerging Markets.
Professor Paul’s seminar covered different classifications of review articles, and explained the importance of review papers in academia. He provided an introductory guide as to how to publish review papers, and gave concretic examples of several different types of review papers in premium journals. The seminar introduced different methodologies to each type of review paper, and provided a useful guide to conducting review articles. The seven different types of review articles that Professor Paul introduced were:
- Structured review
- Framework based review
- Theory based review
- SLR-Narrative type review
- Bibliometric review
- Meta-analytic review
- Review with theoretical or testable propositions (and reviews focusing on theory development)
Professor Paul concluded his seminar with a discussion with the participants, and extended and elaborated on his presentation even further. The seminar provided researchers with useful information to continue their research.
